Introduction

Loonity has it all in its name, it’s an acronym of the three english words Local cOOperation commuNITY. It is a web based information system developed to make easy and accessible to the largest number of people possible the set up, organization and management of local distribution networks.

Creating a cooperative network of people that are able to combine their skills and capabilities in different roles to aggregate a bunch of products and services into a distributed offer of local products is a highly challenging task. The most important key success factor is the sharing of information that must be distributed to all actors involved at the right time with the right modalities and with simple and comprehensible instructions to create efficiency and real value to customers and all persons and entities involved in the production and distribution process.

This is what Loonity is made for! An information system to allow efficient local products distribution through cooperation on a transparent shared environment!

Loonity can be interconnected with all kind of external information systems due to its architecture based on API technology (f.ex. to an external word press-site to create a personalized web-identity of the local “market organization” or an accounting system to manage bookkeeping), but is also able to serve a local distribution project without the need of any other tool in the processes it manages.

The use of Loonity does not require any installation or customization to set up a local products distribution project. It is built like a social network on which every producer and local “market organization” can create it’s own identity and interconnect freely with all others present on the web platform. This characteristics is unique and has the purpose to create full transparency on the suppliers of products and services facilitating the creation of contacts to develop cooperation.

This video from 2016 describes the purpose and the functioning of Loonity. Even if first operations on the information system are dated 2014, more than 350’000 transactions were successfully managed and a lot of new functions have been developed, it is still describing the true value that Loonity wants to bring to the world of local distribution: make organization simple and efficient through information technology so that humans can have more time for the most important thing in life, the development of true connections!

In the following articles we will try to explain more in detail how the architecture of Loonity is designed to sustain local distribution networks, which processes are covered and what principles were implemented to define a logic thread to optimize organization and cooperation between its users.
